Come and savor the taste of quality and tradition!Customers frequently praise the freshness of the fish, often mentioning that the batter is perfectly crisp and not overly greasy. The generous portion sizes are another highlight; a small chips is enough for one person, while large chips can easily feed two. Many enjoy the quick service, with food usually cooked to order, allowing for minimal wait times. The value for money is a strong point as well, with prices ranging from £1 to £10, making it an ideal choice for budget-conscious diners. The smiles from the friendly staff add to the charm, creating a welcoming atmosphere that patrons love.
While St James Fish Bar enjoys a strong reputation, some patrons mention that the busiest times can lead to longer wait periods, especially on Friday evenings. Occasionally, a customer might find that certain items run out quickly, particularly your favorites during peak hours. Another noted downside can be the limited inside seating during rush periods; thus, it’s generally busier than average during dinner times. Also, with so many popular dishes, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the choices on the menu, leading to indecision for first-time visitors.
Love this chippy! The chips are always really nice and fresh, the fish and battered sausage are also really good. The staff are all really friendly, think it’s family ran. I live really close and have to say I come here far too often. For one person the small chips is more than enough.
Large chips was enough to feed 2 adults. Fish was nice. The pie was yummy. It was quick service and not too expensive. Would come again.
Brilliant service, lovely fresh cheesy chips. Great value and a decent portion. I will be back for lunch again for sure.
Come here quite regularly, never been disappointed. Rarely a long wait, food is usually cooked to order and portion sizes are generous. Service with a smile, always aim to go here if I fancy chips.
Great food for a fish n chips shop, will definitely use again
Newly refitted and new owners. Glad to say still one of the best chip shops in the area.
St. James Fish Bar: Top Marks All Across The Board Had a fantastic experience at St. James Fish Bar last night (February 10th, 2024)! The premises are clean, spacious and really invite you to try the food within. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, which always made the experience even better. Onto the food! Their menu is impressively broad for a chip shop which is great if, like me, you like trying new foods. This time, I kept it simple and went for the classic combo of chips and fish, and let me tell you, it was *excellent*. The fish was perfectly cooked – crispy batter, fresh and flaky white fish inside. The chips were just right – golden, fluffy, and not greasy at all. Portion sizes were very generous, too, leaving me feeling happily satisfied. I also bought a double cheeseburger which was very good quality. The vegetables were fresh and the onions were plentiful, whilst the beef was good quality. Feeling a bit adventurous, I also tried their deep-fried Mars bar. The combination may sound unusual but the result was, without a doubt, delicious! The warm, gooey chocolate with the crispy coating was a delightful treat without being sickly or over-indulgent. Honestly, there wasn't a single thing I could fault about my visit to St. James Fish Bar. The food was top-notch, the atmosphere was great, and the service was friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious and enjoyable meal. I'll definitely be back for more fish and chips (and probably another Mars bar, too!). **Overall rating:** 5 out of 5 stars **Pros:** * Clean, spacious, and inviting atmosphere * Friendly and welcoming staff * Excellent quality food with generous portions * Particularly impressed with the fish and chips, and the deep-fried Mars bar was a tasty treat! **Cons:** * None **Additional notes:** * Would definitely revisit * Would highly recommend to others
